Half Hearted Headache

Half Hearted Headache started off as a daily slice of life comic about my real life and a New Years resolution for 2017 to challenge myself to do a comic strip every day of the year for 2017. My goal was to see if I could do this and then start an ongoing Slice of Life story told Monday – Fridays with a mostly narrative story.

What is Slice of Life, dude? You’ve said it now about a dozen times!
Taken from Wikipedia, the home of all things accurate – Slice of life describes the depiction of mundane experiences in art and entertainment.[1] In theater it refers to naturalism, while in literary parlance it is a narrative technique in which a seemingly arbitrary sequence of events in a character’s life is presented, often lacking plot development, conflict and exposition, and often having an open ending. In Japanese animation and comics, it is a genre that parallels melodrama.

School is perhaps the most common setting for these kinds of series, especially in animation. Coming of age is often a major part of their stories

In short, it’s about people. There might be super heroes, there might be alien invasions, there might even be time-travelling pink rabbits with a thermal detonator bent on destroying a video store… but that’s not the main elements of what we love. This comic is about people; how they grow and how they interact with one another. Sure, there may be conflict at points, but there also might not be. This is an ongoing, serialized story about the characters in this world. While my first year was more gimmick and joke based, similar to most types of comic strips, I really want to tell a story and emotionally bring characters to an audience that will grow with them over time.

I do hope you enjoy the ride, there is a LOT planned out and will be coming soon. I have some great plans for some even more amazing characters! There is a slight story that will be running under everything that will creep up from time to time as well. I hope you enjoy the ride, it’s going to be a doozy! And by doozy I mean, you will get to see people working and talking. Woot!
